RAZOR SHARP THINKING

NOTE to READER: Social entrepreneurs are constantly faced with making decisions and solving problems. The following “Razors” can assist thinking through these challenges.

I’ve found Hanlon’s Razor to be particularly useful. Amazing how many times I thought I was facing a conspiracy it eventually became apparent the root cause was incompetence.

When facing opposition to change efforts Hitchen’s Razor can be particularly helpful in asking opponents to prove their claims as to why your proposed solution to a social problem is unworkable, ineffective, or harmful.

• The simplest explanation is usually the right one.” Occam’s Razor

• “Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.” Hanlon’s Razor

• “Burden of proof lies with the one who makes the claim.” Hitchen’s Razor
